THE DAILY BRIEFING

Bittensor Daily — October 13, 2026

TAO dropped 8.21% to $271.30, with more subnets down than up across the network. Subnet-level activity included an incentive mechanism redesign at SN118 (Ditto), a hosting outage that disrupted scoring at SN96 (Verathos), and fresh model-copy and blacklisting disputes at SN44 (Score).

Today's highlights

  1. 01

TAO fell 8.21% to $271.30, with 51 of 128 subnets up and 72 down.

The decline affected the majority of subnets, indicating broad-based weakness rather than an isolated move.

  2. 02

A partial outage at hosting provider Hetzner's Finland data center caused validator scoring issues at SN96 (Verathos), leaving many miners with zero emissions for an epoch, even as the subnet's token price rose 14.94% ahead of its October 15 relaunch as Verathos Decide.

The outage shows an infrastructure dependency risk for the subnet just before a planned relaunch and new referral program.

  3. 03

SN118 (Ditto) redesigned its incentive mechanism to a 75% gamma / 25% miner emission split, lowered its submission fee from 0.1 to 0.05 TAO, and announced its first paid business client, with the team saying client revenue will fund token buybacks.

The changes mark a shift toward commercial revenue and a new emission structure for the subnet following completion of its memory track.

  4. 04

A miner in SN44 (Score) alleged two other miners submitted near-identical copies of their beverage-track model and were paid via the tie-break mechanism, while the team separately blacklisted a significant number of Cricket private-track hotkeys after spot checks could not reproduce reported results.

The disputes raise questions about the subnet's public-track protections and private-track verification process.

  5. 05

Subtensor PR 3235 adds a migration to restore missing hotkey-to-stake associations from existing on-chain records.

The fix addresses a network-wide data issue affecting TAO holders whose stake records lacked a hotkey link, with no action required from them.

Ditto

What happened
SN118 (Ditto) redesigned its incentive mechanism for the memory track to a 75% gamma / 25% miner emission split, then announced the memory track is complete and the subnet is moving to a router competition that will include a reranker, learned retrieval weights, and a sub-7B Ditto language model. Until the new incentive mechanism is live, emissions are routed to a team UID on-chain. The team also lowered the submission fee from 0.1 to 0.05 TAO and announced onboarding its first paid business client, saying business client revenue will power token buybacks. Stored memories in Ditto nearly doubled in two weeks to 631,876, with registered accounts reaching 2,719.
Community
Miners objected to the reduced emission share under the new split, with one miner proposing an alternative 25% gamma / 75% miner split; several questioned the fairness of the change and some said they would stop mining unless it was revised. Miners also raised a case where a winning agent's code was not publicly released as expected, which the team attributed to a possible bug tied to protocol updates.
Official
The team said the memory track was saturated and that reallocating emissions reflected resource management rather than disregard for miner contributions, and confirmed lowering the submission fee to 0.05 TAO in response to miner feedback. The team also announced its first business client and said business client revenue will fund token buybacks.

SN44 24h −1.55%

Score

What happened
A miner alleged that two other miners submitted near-identical copies of their beverage-track model and received payouts through the subnet's tie-break mechanism; the team stated it does not ban model copies in the public track and pointed to private commits as the way to protect original work. Separately, the team blacklisted a significant number of Cricket private-track hotkeys after spot checks could not reproduce the results those hotkeys had reported, and said the spot-checking process would be strengthened going forward. A coldkey controlling three miner accounts and three validator accounts on the football track was also raised by community members, with the team attributing its validator display to an alpha-stake threshold rather than validator permissions. An official X post reported that every SN44 (Score) competition running ten days earlier has a new champion today, with first and second place separated by less than 0.01 in seven of eight races.
Community
Miners pressed the team to ban the alleged copycats and to tighten rules protecting original model submissions, while the team maintained that the public track allows copying absent a private commit. Separate community members questioned why one coldkey held both miner and validator accounts on the football track and whether validator access to ground-truth data gave it an advantage; the team disputed the characterization. A miner whose hotkey was skipped from evaluation after a deregistration near the eval block confirmed the gap was expected and was advised to use commit_recover rather than recommitting.
Official
The team said it does not ban model copies in the public track, citing existing protections via private commit, and announced the blacklisting of a significant number of Cricket private-track hotkeys following failed spot checks, with stronger spot checks planned. It also published a report showing new champions in six of eight SN44 (Score) competitions over a 10-day window, with close margins in most races.

Verathos

What happened
SN96 (Verathos) announced it will relaunch as Verathos Decide on Thursday, October 15, moving to open-weight decision models that return a probability for each option via a single API, signed by the answering miner. The team also introduced a referral program allowing non-miners to earn up to 10% of subnet emissions by bringing in paid demand, starting Thursday. Separately, a partial network outage at the team's hosting provider, Hetzner, at a data center in Finland caused validator scoring issues, leaving many miners with zero emissions for an epoch. The team said it has already migrated the new Verathos Decide platform to a different data center ahead of launch.
Community
Miners asked about the referral and paid-demand pipeline timing and whether currently served models would remain supported until the Thursday update. Several miners reported their endpoints showing zero scores and inactive status despite passing health and debug checks, and one miner noted that scores were restored but emissions for that epoch stayed at zero. A community member cautioned others to be careful about direct messages during the troubleshooting exchange.
Official
The team confirmed intermittent connectivity affected the legacy validator and miner scoring and said it was correcting the scoring impact while monitoring recovery, adding that the Verathos Decide testnet was not affected. It later attributed the issue to a partial outage at its hosting provider, Hetzner, in a Finland data center, said the issue was outside its direct control, and stated it had already moved Verathos Decide to another data center ahead of the October 15 launch.

SN15 24h +1.97%

ORO

What happened
Miners in SN15 (ORO) reported technical issues affecting race outcomes, including an agent eliminated after passing qualifying but failing all evaluations, and multiple cases of agents discarded due to "generated evaluation infrastructure failure" errors. Separately, a miner reported their coldkey was compromised during an attempted coldkey swap, with moderators now verifying ownership while emissions continue.
Community
Miners affected by the evaluation errors asked the team to investigate and reinstate their agents in future races. A question about the current race champion appearing as a validator on-chain was clarified by another miner as resulting from the coldkey holding over 1000 alpha rather than indicating validator status.
Official
The official X account posted a link captioned "All in the open :)" without further detail.

SN46 24h −0.93%

Instant

What happened
SN46 (Instant) released miner update v0.7.0, disabling the burn mechanism so that all emissions now go to miners, and switched the served model to GLM-5.3-Flash-Uncensored-FP8, effective 14:00 UTC on Oct 13. Separately, a prolonged, personal dispute unfolded in the SN46 channel between the subnet owner and a community member, involving mutual accusations and name-calling. Moderators intervened, and one participant was temporarily muted.
Community
The exchange drew in other community members, some urging moderators to act, with one moderator noting the discussion had become channel spam and was not constructive for the subnet. A moderator also stated that subnet owners are expected to respond substantively to criticism rather than have it suppressed.
Official
The team announced that burn is now off, with 100% of emissions going to miners, and confirmed the switch to the GLM-5.3-Flash-Uncensored-FP8 model.

#3235 Breaking change

Restore missing staking hotkey associations in bounded migration batches

What
Subtensor adds a migration that restores missing links between staked balances and their hotkeys, rebuilding them from existing on-chain records, and raises the network's internal version number.
Why
Some stake-to-hotkey links had gone missing and needed to be reconstructed from other authoritative on-chain data rather than lost.
Who it affects
This is a network-wide upgrade that node operators must apply; TAO holders whose stake records were missing a hotkey link should see their holdings correctly associated again, with no action needed on their part.

#3233 Breaking change

Size the stake-exit walk to the caller's list in the EVM and contract paths

What
Subtensor changes how much computational cost is charged upfront for stake-exit operations made through the EVM and smart contracts, basing it on the actual number of linked hotkeys instead of always assuming the maximum possible.
Why
The previous approach charged for a worst-case scenario regardless of how many hotkeys were actually involved, making these calls more expensive than necessary.
Who it affects
This mainly affects developers and users who interact with staking through EVM-based contracts, who should see lower gas costs for stake-exit calls; it does not change anything for ordinary TAO holders, validators, or miners outside that context.
